Frequently asked questions
- The altitude reading looks wrong.
Altitude is computed from GPS and barometer data. Wait a moment outdoors in an open area so GPS can settle; sudden weather changes affect barometric altitude, so check the pressure trend in the app as a reference. A device with a barometer (iPhone 6s or later, or a HarmonyOS device that has one) gives more stable readings; devices without a barometer rely mainly on GPS altitude.
- How do I keep recording in the background?
iOS: choose "Always" and enable "Precise Location" in Settings → AltiView → Location. A location indicator appears in the status bar while recording, and recording continues after you return to the Home Screen.
HarmonyOS: set the location permission to "Always" in Settings → Apps → AltiView → Permissions. The app keeps running in the background while recording, with a running indicator in the status bar / notification.
- Why are there so few footprints?
iOS: footprints rely on the system's significant-location-change wakeups, which are designed to save power — a point is usually logged only after moving several hundred metres to a few kilometres, staying put adds nothing, and the app can still catch up after you leave it.
HarmonyOS: footprints rely on a system long-running task, so the app must stay running in the background; once you fully close the app, nothing is logged.
For continuous recording, use the record function on the Tracks tab.
- How do I import or export data?
Import GPX / KML files from the track list; export tracks as GPX and footprints as CSV (UTF-8, opens directly in Excel).
- How do I back up and restore?
iOS: create an iCloud backup in Profile → Backup; the app keeps the most recent backups. After switching devices or reinstalling, choose a backup to restore. Note that deleting the app does not automatically remove your iCloud backup.
HarmonyOS: backups are written to HUAWEI Cloud and created / restored in Settings → Backup; you first need to enable sync for this app in system Settings → Cloud. The HarmonyOS version can also export a backup as a zip file to a folder you choose, or import one back into the backup list.
- How do I restore my Pro purchase?
Tap "Restore Purchases" on the Profile or Pro screen and sign in with the Apple ID used for the purchase (iPhone / iPad version). The HarmonyOS version is fully free and currently offers no in-app purchases.
- How do I remove ads?
On iOS, upgrading to Pro removes ads; you can also limit ad tracking in system settings. The HarmonyOS version currently shows no ads.
- How do I change language and units?
On the Profile screen you can switch between 10 interface languages (applies immediately) and between metric and imperial units.
- How do I cancel auto-renewal?
Manage or turn off auto-renewal in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Refunds must be requested through the App Store (iPhone / iPad version).
